International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17th
Union Green 3-5 pm International Education Week 2008 Opening Ceremony
Featuring international food; international music and a parade of flags. Speakers include Provost Dr. Larry Abele, VP for Student Affairs Dr. Mary Coburn, U.S. Department of State Diplomat-in-Residence Roberto Powers and Student Body President Elect Laymon A. Hicks.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th
Claude Pepper Center 1-2pm Fulbright Lecture: Joaquin Gonzalez Ibanez: Europe's Vision of America in the Post 9/11 World
Middle East Center 2-4 pm Middle East Center Open House
Enjoy Baklava and ma'amoul as well as coffee and tea at their open house!
Beth Moor Lounge 4-5pm URACE/Global Pathways Certificate Scholar Reception: students and interested faculty will informally discuss opportunities to conduct research on international topics.
Student Life Cinema 5-6:30pm Mardi Gras: Made in China
Award winning movie that follows the path of Mardi Gras beads from the naked streets of New Orleans to the disciplined factories in China. Discussion by Amnesty International will follow the movie (SLC).
Student Life Cinema 7-9:00pm : Federico Fellini’s autobiographical masterpiece, tells the story of Guido- a suave womanizing Italian director who is having trouble coming up with his next film. Pressured by his wife, mistress and crew, Guido retreats to his own twisted subconscious to reach cinematic bliss. Panel discussion with Dr. Silvia Valisa, Dept. of Modern Languages following the screening.
College of Music Lindsay Recital Hall 8-9:00pm World Music: Irish Dance
Come for an hour of enchanting Irish Dance performed by FSU’s Irish Ensemble

Pre-sale tickets are $7 each and will rise at the door.
8pm-2am Invisible Children Benefit Concert: Music with a Heartbeat in efforts to raise awareness of a 22-year long war in Northern Uganda and also to raise money for Awere Secondary School in Northern Uganda. 6 bands in attendance: rock, reggae, rap, and acoustic genres.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19th
Union Courtyard 10-1pm Market Wednesday: Foreign Language Tables and Study Abroad
Come and talk to the returning Study Abroad students during the Study Abroad Alumni Fair. Also, visit our foreign language tables and pick up a phrase or two.
International Center 3-4pm "Middle East Adventures"
FSU students/faculty who traveled to the Middle East this summer will present pictures, stories, and tips on how to get to the region (Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Tunisia, Oman).
Claude Pepper Center 5-6:30pm Global Leadership Forum
GLP will bring students together with a panel of internationally involved students, faculty, and peers on campus that will facilitate discussion on global action. Using the panel as a resource, students will be able to ask questions pertaining to organizations and programs at FSU that foster international thought and build leadership experience.
International Center 7-9pm Darfur Now: Movie Screening followed by a discussion on human rights issues with Dr. Terry Coonan, The Center for the Advancement of Human Rights and Amnesty International.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20th
International Center 12-2pm Fulbright Forum: Visiting Scholars and Students will present their research.
Student Services Building (SSB) 214 3:30-4:30pm Global Pathways Certificate Program Information Session:
Come and learn about the program that maximizes the rich cultural learning experiences available to students on campus, in the community and abroad.
Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science 6:00pm - 8:00pm 9th Annual Charles Billings International Students' Reception
In recognition of International Education Week, The City of Tallahassee Cordially invites you and your family to attend the 9th Annual Charles Billings International Students' Reception. Claude Pepper Center 12:00-1:00pm Fulbright Lecture: International Children's Rights Issues
Student Services Building (SSB) 214 1:30-2:30pm Global Pathways Certificate and Academic Exchanges Faculty Information Session:Discover how international student and faculty exchanges can be set up, the benefits for students of the new Global Pathways Certificate and have input on the Graduate Certificate now being planned.
Student Services Building (SSB) 218 3-5:00pm Going Global: A Showcase of Student Discovery
Enjoy displays and presentations by students who have gone overseas to study, intern and participate in special service projects. Attendees will enjoy international food, a poster showcase and door prizes!
International Center 5:30-7:00pm

International Coffee Hour: Come to the International Center for a relaxing evening of coffee, tea, dessert, and international music to mark the end of the International Education Week 2008.
